German women try to smuggle dead relative aboard airplane
Strange News Monday, September 6th, 2010Two women who allegedly tried to smuggle their elderly dead relative on a flight to Germany will not be prosecuted because he may have only been dead for 12 hours, authorities said.
They had claimed Mrs Jarant’s 91 year-old husband was asleep after they placed him in a wheelchair and dressed him in sunglasses.
But after horrified airport staff noticed something was seriously wrong, officials checked for a pulse and found he was in fact dead.
The pair had already successfully convinced a taxi driver he was well enough for the 45-minute drive to the airport from their home in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Police were called and arrested the pair, who had been due to fly to Berlin, on suspicion of failing to give notification of death.
But on Friday Greater Manchester Police announced the Crown Prosecution Service found there was “insufficient evidence” to warrant charges against the pair, who are German nationals.
